“Blessed is he who is not offended by me.” Luke 7:23, Jesus Speaking.
It seems to be the season of “the great offence”. Those with less money are offended by the rich. Different races are taking offence at one another. Women are offended by men, it seems, more than men are offended by women. Different sexual orientations are offended if someone isn’t for them.” Women” that were men that were whatever are offended if you don’t call them what they think they should be called.
Some are offended to see a woman nursing in public and politicians offend just about everyone in some manner shape or form. Some are offended by guns and hunting and eating meat. It seems to be the popular thing today to be offended and tell it to whoever will hear. At the present time it is easier to take offence , as the old saying goes,” than falling off a log”.
But here is a much more weighty thought….. are you offended by Jesus?
Jesus said some things to cause a person to take notice. He said things that not many ponder today. Those offended by Him pick a few Bible verses they think they know about Jesus. A couple come to mind, 1. don’t judge (which many don’t really discern correctly), 2. and love, love , love. What they mean is don’t say anything that can rock my boat or would upset me. Don’t quote any spiritual requirements from God, ie, the Bible that I should hear. Don’t speak of those things to me, be quiet about it is offensive to me. If it bothers me it is not love.
But Jesus said “Blessed is He who is not offended in Me”.
To take offense of Jesus is to put yourself in a precarious position. It puts you at odds with Him, with God.
Here are some things about Jesus from the Bible. The only true revelation of God given to mankind.
Jesus said he was God. John 8:58
Jesus said he is the only way to God. John 1:6
Jesus message is for mankind to repent and believe in and follow him. Luke 13:5.
Only by knowing Jesus will you have eternal life. John 17:3.
Jesus never changes. He still heals, saves, grants mercy, gives blessings and provides. He loves us and wants us to come to him for our life. Sadly enough, this make some people mad. Hebrews 13:8
Jesus requires his followers to repent, be baptized in water and the Holy Spirit and to follow Him and not to turn back. He requires us to love him more than family and our own selves. He requires us to love our neighbors as ourselves and to release offences and forgive.
Jesus said we are completely impotent to save ourselves from eternal damnation and came as a substitute and took our sins on Himself, took our punishment and died for us. We didn’t even know we needed it until He told us. He made us and owns the world and us too. Does that offend anyone?
These are all things to ponder and weigh out. You see, having choice is an awesome thing. We can choose to come under the government of a loving, albeit, absolute God. He is absolutely right and true. He absolutely will not change. He is absolutely in charge. This offends many.
Today Jesus is asking…… Are you offended by Me?
